Last week, a woman who was driving an SUV in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, was killed after a dump truck crushed her vehicle. When the accident happened, the dump truck spilled a heavy load of sand it had been hauling onto the woman's vehicle. By the time emergency workers were able to free the woman from her SUV that had been covered in sand, she was already dead.
The fatal car accident occurred Jan. 19 on Haddonfield-Berlin Road near Morris Drive shortly before noon. According to Cherry Hill Police, the driver of the dump truck swerved on the road in order to avoid hitting another vehicle. But when the truck swerved, the load of sand shifted, causing the dump truck to tip over.
The driver of the dump truck told police that he was traveling west on Haddonfield-Berlin Road when another vehicle attempted to make a left turn in front of the truck from Morris Drive to head east on Haddonfield-Berlin Road. The dump truck driver said that he was forced to swerve to avoid a collision with the turning vehicle. The dump truck, which is owned by MJF Materials, then tipped over and landed on an SUV that was traveling east on Haddonfield-Berlin Road. It took crews more than seven hours to clean the crash site.
As of last week, MJF Materials had not issued a statement about the fatal truck crash. Police may be investigating whether or not the driver had been properly trained to haul the heavy load of sand or if the truck company had violated any other safety regulations that could have contributed to the accident. It has not yet been reported which driver had the right-of-way at the intersection.
